Become a music sponsor of the James Library and attend the annual sponsor’s Gala. Light fare and musical entertainment by New England Conservatory students. A donation to the music sponsor’s fund enables the James to keep concert tickets reasonably priced. Thank you for your support!

Mother Goosey, is a charming puppet show and storytelling event by Charlotte Anne Dore and Rosalita’s puppets custom made for young children ages 3-5. Please call 659-7100 for tickets, as seating is limited. $5 per person.

Don’t miss this annual tradition at The James.  Individual sittings are available for hand-cut silhouettes by one of New England’s premiere silhouette artists. Call for pricing and appointments. Joy Anne hand cuts traditional silhouettes for adults and children six months and older. Silhouettes are perfect for holiday gift giving and matting is also available. Appointments fill early so please call 781.659-7100 in advance.

Don’t miss one of the South Shore’s best holiday shopping fairs. Many new vendors this year.  A variety of handcrafted items by regional artists and artisans will be available on three floors of the charming James Library.  Christmas ornaments, art prints, stained glass, hand knits, jewelry, organic beauty soap and other unique items.

The Singing, Ringing Tree
Interactive theatre for children ages 6-12
Held at First Parish Church, Norwell

The Singing Ringing Tree
Families will enjoy this interactive play in which audience members become the stars of the show. Adapted from a fairy tale about the transforming power of love, all 12 characters -- ranging from panthers to princes to pigs-- are portrayed by children in the audience. This production by Sarah Salerno Thomas features large evocative papier-mâché masks created by Ruth Fledermaus.

FREE but pre-registration is requested.

A raffle will be held to benefit the library’s children’s book collection.

To accommodate a larger audience, the show will be held next door to the James Library in the First Parish Church hall.

What happens when as many people as possible in one town read the same book? Find out this spring when Norwell Reads returns. This “One Town - One Book” event is co-sponsored by the Norwell Public Library.

North River Scenes
May 8 - May 30, 2009

The third bi-annual invitational Art Show and Sale

Benefit party: Friday, May 8, 2009 6-9 p.m.

$25 tickets in advance and at the door.

Held every other year, North River Scenes celebrates one of the South Shore’s most beloved landmarks - the scenic North River.

Thirty regional artists are asked to create a new piece depicting the river. A variety of media will be on view and available for purchase. Proceeds benefit the artists and the James Library Art Gallery. Join us at the opening party, meet and mingle with the artists and purchase a piece of art. The show remains on view through May 31, 2009.

The biennial Books – in- Bloom event is a glorious celebration of books and flowers.

Creative floral displays depicting books are on exhibit for two days on all three floors of the James Library. Created by local artists and book lovers, this is one of the year’s most popular events.
