When It Raines It Pours—Some Ghostly Thoughts

From Our Psi Symposium President

We now have a gender opposite version of the fairly successful T.V. program "Medium". Instead of Allison DuBois, female psychic, who helps the District Attorney solve murders and crimes before and after the fact with strange dreams of the dead that seem weird but eventually make sense—we now have Raines, male psychic detective, who helps the police solve murders, not with dreams but by ghostly conversations with the victims who guide his investigations until the crime is solved and they then disappear till the next one comes along. The problem with Raines is that when it Raines it pours and our psychic detective is not sure whether he’s losing his mind or his marbles in the bargain. His associates are so concerned about his talking to people no one else can see that his police boss insists he see a therapist to work things out. Are his ghosts temporary imaginary friends or real spooks who have unfinished business surrounding their leave taking, or both? The problem with his spooks is that they do not seem to know much more about who murdered them than he does until a new clue is uncovered and the case unfolds one clue at a time. But it is his ghostly conversations that lead to the eventual resolution of the crime.

I like this guy because he really tries to sort out what is real from what is unreal and to make peace with his ghosts. The thing is that without his ghosts he would be much less of a detective and would end up being just a run of the mill cop. It is his ghosts that make him more than he would otherwise be. Being a little bit crazy makes him a lot more creative. It is a balancing act and an effort that strikes a bargain that uses the forces of the psyche for a good end.

Do you have any ghosts in your life, real or imaginary? Do you talk to yourself? Do you have conversations with people who are not physically present and/or no longer among the living? Do you pray? Do you talk to "God" out loud or silently in your mind, however you may conceive Him/Her/It to be or not to be? It’s when God talks back to you that they may lock you up. Do you ever have dreams about the dead? Are there dead ghosts still alive in your psyche or soul? Do you or they have unfinished business? Do you need to make peace with your ghosts?

Jesus had his conversations with God and the Devil and did his best to listen to the godly part of his soul. Socrates listened to the voice of his daimon to guide his thoughts and actions, which we like to call the Voice of Conscience. Is the Voice real or imaginary, a help or a hindrance, a mad ghost or the spirit of sanity? Do you need to talk things out with an understanding soul to find that which makes you whole? You don’t necessarily have to give up the ghost to find the peace of mind that makes you a whole and loving human being. Remember, when it Raines it may pour, so it makes sense to carry an umbrella. So what if you get a little wet. Just don’t drown in your tears. You are very much needed to solve the riddle of life that you are. It is better to talk to your ghosts than to be one before your time.
