Music at First Parish

If you are looking for a church choir to sing with, may I recommend the choir at First Parish in Norwell: a more generous, musically adept, joyful group cannot be found.

The Music Director, i.e. me, has an amazingly varied background that makes her uniquely qualified to take on a congregation of such diverse interests and affinities. The choir sings many of the great choral works by Bach, Mozart, Mendelssohn, Rutter, etc. as well as spirituals, folk music, and other gems of the repertoire.

If you can't read music so well, or you feel insecure about your singing, come anyway! Camaraderie, laughter, and love of music "make (for) a joyful noise." As Maya Angelou said, "A bird doesn't sing because it has an answer. It sings because it has a song."

Children have an opportunity to sing on several occasions during the year, and the music committee and I are constantly searching for new ways to fit in some music-making around their busy schedules.

Instrumentalists, young and old, can also participate on "Music Sunday" in May. We now have a guitarist and possibly a flutist and drummer who will be accompanying the choir occasionally.

The music committee is always supportive of my efforts with Rev. Vicki to create harmony in blending the elements of the worship service. To quote Ellen Fulton, secretary of the music committee, "Music is the heart and soul of our First Parish Church in Norwell."

Come join us some Thursday evening, 7:30-9:00 and see for yourself! We'd love to see you.

Gingy Grimes, Music Director
